Precise Finishing – Combinations and Deep Penetrative Runs
The aim of the exercise is to develop dribbling, one-touch combinations, third-man play, and passing accuracy, while constantly emphasizing cooperation between the players.
Special focus is placed on deep penetrative runs, scanning, proper body orientation, and the precise timing of passes and movements, all of which are essential for executing attacking actions that end with a finish on goal.
Organisation
The players are divided into two groups and work parallel to each other side by side.
The area is set up with cones, poles, and mannequins as shown in the diagram.
The mannequins help create optimal passing lanes and represent the positions of the opposition defenders.
Each sequence ends with a precise finish on goal.
The balls are placed at the ‘A’ positions.
There are two possible ways to organize the rotation:
- The players rotate continuously within their own group through positions A to E; in this case, after a designated period, the two groups switch sides.
- From position ‘E’, the player always moves to the other group’s ‘A’ position, creating continuous rotation between the two groups.

Description and Graphics
The players start simultaneously from the ‘A’ positions, dribbling through the poles.
They then execute quick combinations (2–5) with players in positions ‘B’, ‘C’, and ‘D’.
After the final combination, the player in position ‘A’ plays an accurate pass (6) to the teammate making a deep penetrative run from position ‘E’, moving behind the defensive line.
The runner arrives in the finishing zone in front of the goal, where they finish the action either with a controlled first touch or with a one-touch shot.
